Something To Think About

Brothers and Sisters
An opportunity has been created with the Wall-Street protests. As we get closer to our contract expiration the membership must participate. Many of us are only fond of words, and cannot translate them into deeds. This must change for the benefit of our children's future.
In reading many of the posts that's out there, our brother and sisters are asleep lull-abided by the media (negative)
Do we as a collective really understand what conditioning is? Remember the movie the matrix? Everything seemed to be real, but it wasn't! How real is the occupy wall street struggle to you?  Do you believe that we are the 99%? If the answer is yes, then we should be supportive of the social struggles! What are the social struggles? Racism, Classism, Education, Housing just to mention a few. Our personal social struggle within Transit is assaults and managerial persecution. How do we change the tide? Get involved, and if you're a representative accept the help that is offered!
November 15th 2011 is the day we will start negotiations. What ever your issues, be there to support the leadership. 7th Avenue between 52nd and 53rd Street
As a footnote, be mindful of the folks who try to turn things political for the sake of their own self interests, those actions are not building blocks for our fight ahead!

  1. How do you support that portion of your leadership that didn't pay their dues. You have 41 officers holding office who were not and are not qualified under the TWU Constitution and By-laws to hold office let alone negotiate a contract. It will be interesting to see if the Department of Labor allows these rogues to settle a contract or will the DOL take control.

It's just a shame none of the qualified officers speaks out with exception of Tommy Creegan and Izzy Rivera. I truly wish our members good luck, they're going to need it.

  2. In response, All folks in this country are innocent until proven guilty! That Being said, I try not to take a public issue against my Union Brothers and Sisters because it's counter productive against our real enemies! It's not only about our contract, it's also about our way of life! We are people who live in the social environment of the 99% the protesters that had the guts to stand up to the powers that be. As to the Brothers you have mentioned, all I see is character assassinations! I have not once saw anything from them criticizing our employer, just Union bashing! I'm for a United Union! We can never truly come together if we cant leave the politics where it belongs, and thats with the politicians! Thanks for commenting!

  3. Calling for the removal of individuals already judged by the Dept. of Labor not to have paid their dues is justified and required by our union Constitution and By-Laws. Three of these individuals are on the International Exec. Board.
This is not politics by any means either you paid your dues or you didn't and so either your qualified to hold office or your not.
If you would be so kind I would like to take up your comments on the Wall St. loons at another time so as to stay on point with the dues issue. Thank you and be well.

  4. Once again thanks for your comments, and to be honest with you, if the people identified in the DOL are guilty as charged then let the constitution dictate what happens!
Be safe and enjoy the good life!

  5. I believe the Constitution calls for removal, not an easy thing to do but we need to bring legitimacy back to the union we love. Enjoy the holidays and have a successful general membership meeting.
